David Peng, CIA, CISA

Principal

David Peng, Founder & Principal Consultant at Verdantmarks Consulting Group, brings over 17 years of experience across retail, manufacturing, real estate, and financial services. He specializes in Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance, as well as compliance and operational reviews, overseeing planning, testing, and reporting to deliver actionable solutions that enhance audit effectiveness and operational efficiency.

David has deep expertise in financial, operational, and compliance audits. Prior to founding Verdantmarks, he held various roles as Director, Manager, and Senior Internal Auditor at publicly traded companies—including a tenure at Deloitte—and served for six years as Chief Audit Executive, reporting directly to Boards and Audit Committees.

Mike Burgess, CPA, CIA, CISA, Managing Director at Verdantmarks Consulting Group, brings over 20 years of expertise in internal audit, accounting, and financial advisory across retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and distribution. He specializes in Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance, CFO services, and risk-based operational reviews, leading enterprise-wide SOX programs and dynamic audit teams to deliver tailored solutions that enhance compliance and operational efficiency.

Mike is known for building robust audit and accounting functions that drive operational improvements and enhance strategic growth. He previously worked at Ernst & Young. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance, Real Estate & Law.

Andreas Ortiz

Director & Senior Advisor, Real Estate

Andreas Ortiz, Director and Senior Advisor at Verdantmarks Consulting Group, brings over 15 years of experience in private equity, ground-up development, construction finance, and asset management. He specializes in capital deployment strategies and financial modeling for family offices and institutional investors focused on multifamily and mixed-use real estate markets.

Andreas is known for leading development and construction accounting and process improvement initiatives. His background includes senior roles at a U.S.-based asset and investment management firm overseeing a $20 billion development portfolio, as well as program controls and construction finance work on public works projects in Los Angeles and San Diego. He serves Verdantmarks in an independent consultant capacity through his firm, REK Partners. Andreas holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Real Estate & Business Law and is a licensed California real estate broker
